Coach Andy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the gym, particularly in the world of weightlifting. While he’s only officially taken on two CrossFit sessions so far, Andy’s long-standing relationship with the fitness space and his annual appearance at the birthday workout for his coaching crew means he’s no stranger to the floor. Beyond that, his deep roots in the New Zealand and Victorian weightlifting teams make him a valuable resource when it comes to technique, mobility, and strength training.
With a passion for helping athletes of all levels refine their lifts and develop better movement patterns, Andy is a true expert when it comes to creating a strong foundation in weightlifting. His approach focuses on precision and skill, drawing from years of experience in coaching and competing at a high level.
Outside of the gym, Andy is a man of many talents. When he’s not coaching or lifting, you can find him speed cubing (yes, solving those Rubik’s cubes at lightning speed!), performing acrobatics at the park, or enjoying a competitive game of frisbee. His diverse interests speak to his love of movement, mental challenges, and keeping things fun and exciting in all aspects of life.
For Coach Andy, the most significant turning point in his life came when he made the bold decision to leave his established job in New Zealand and move to Melbourne, Australia. This wasn’t just a change of scenery — it was a complete reorientation of his personal and professional compass.
At the time, Andy was entrenched in a life that, on paper, seemed like a solid foundation. He had a steady job, a routine, and the comfort of familiarity. But deep down, he felt something was missing. The decision to move was a wake-up call — a push to reassess what truly mattered to him. He needed to understand not just what he wanted out of life, but also what he didn’t need.
